Liu Chuanzhi and ten other engineers founded Lenovo in Beijing in 1984 as “Legend” and initially focused on manufacturing and distributing technology products. In the 1990s, it expanded its product line to include PCs and laptops. It became one of the largest PC manufacturers in China.

In the early 2000s, Lenovo began its global expansion strategy by establishing operations outside of China. In 2004, Lenovo acquired IBM’s PC division, including the iconic ThinkPad line of laptops. This acquisition instantly made a major player in the global PC market.
